| 2006 North American Tasar Association Annual
General Meeting 2007 Worlds • Early registration deadline is Oct 30th, register
at www.tasarworlds.com There is heaps of info, and the pictures look beautiful!
I challenge anyone to look through that website, and not at least consider
going!|
• Final registration deadline is Apr 31st (AUD$200 more expensive!) • There is an option for paying AUD$300 by Oct 30th and AUD$550 by Apr 31st. • As of October 15th, there are 5 boats from North America that I know of that are already registered, and committed to going. • If the cost is an issue, here are a few things to consider that may help:
• I've started a thread on the New NATA Forum on
the worlds (I think you’ll notice a trend…) where we can discuss
all this. When you register, you can sign up for email updates anytime
someone posts to the forum to keep in touch. Here is the link.
2007 NATA Schedule • No definite schedule yet, but I will put together
a tentative schedule soon.
• I've started a thread on the new NATA forum for people to comment on which regattas they want to go to, which they don’t, and if there are any suggestions for any regattas not on the list. We also have to pick which regatta will be North Americans, US nationals, and the 4 Can Am regattas. Go here for the discussion: • In the 2006 season, the regattas with the biggest turnout were BC Champs, CGOD and Wenatchee. At the AGM it was concluded that this was because Vancouver has the largest local active fleet (BC Champs), and people like bush regattas (CGOD and Wenatchee). New Tasar Supplier We got a great update from George Yioulos, owner of West Coast Sailing, and the new Tasar parts supplier for the Northwest (assuming the deal goes through, which it sounds like it will). He put a nice post on the NATA Forum with plenty of info, and links to his email and website. Check it out. Membership Dues The $5 membership dues for 2006 was a great success in that it more than doubled the number of members. We decided that we would push out luck and try $10 this year. We will see how that goes. Fleet Building We had a short discussion on some good ways to build up the local Tasar fleets, and some of the ideas mentioned were buying fleet boats for new sailors to use, holding practices that were not in a traditional fleet racing format, and making things cheaper (this has worked very well at Jericho!). Everyone started getting antsy by the time we got around to this topic, so we didn’t get to far, and besides the solution will probably be a little different for each fleet, so I strongly suggest that everyone uses the NATA forum (how predictable) to discuss among their own fleet what seems like the best idea for them. I am planning on posting a few suggestions for the Seattle fleet very soon. Happy Sailing, Posted 2006-10-15 |
