News from the 2004 NATA AGM

The 2004 NATA AGM was held at Cascade Locks on the Columbia River Gorge, on Sunday, August 8.

Rule changes:  Members voted in favour of four of the five proposed rule changes, giving thumbs down to the proposed restriction on adjusting shrouds on the water.  As a result, three of the proposed changes have now been approved by the required 7 Tasar regions or districts, and will be forwarded to ISAF for their approval.

Crew weight:  For the last 12 months, NATA has been trialling a "50%" weight rule.  This varied rule C.6.2 by requiring crews weighing less than 130kg to carry ballast equal to half the difference between 130 kg and their weight, to a maximum of 6 kg. Although some competitors sailed with reduced crew weight ballast in some regattas, the trial was considered inconclusive. Lacking clear evidence that the 50% rule was an improvement, members voted to revert to the previous NATA practice of not requring crew weight ballast in NATA events.

Officers:  Members thanked Allan Johnson for two years of outstanding service as NATA President, and elected Bruce Gage as their new President.  Allan was elected Vice President.  Other officers were re-elected.
