Promoting the Tasar on your new jib
Feedback locally, and from Australia and the UK, confirms that
the switch to Mylar sails is attracting a lot of attention, and
is helping promote the Tasar. A new "Tasar" wordmark and
a modernized the Tasar logo, both designed by Jonathan Ross, are
an important part of the new "mylar" look. Displaying
the "tasar.org" url was also part of the plan to increase
awareness of the class..
The photo on the Tasar home page
shows the mylar sails, with the redesigned logo and the Tasar wordmark
on the main sail. You can also see the url "www.tasar.org"
on both the main and the jib. The original plan was to have the
sail maker apply the logo, the wordmark, and the url's to the sails
during manufacture. Bethwaite Design and the sail maker agreed to
apply the logo and the wordmark, but not the urls.
We have gone ahead with the plan to disply the url, but only on
the jib. All mylar jibs delivered in Canada and the US will come
with the url "tasar.org" (the "www" was dropped)
in laser cut self-adhesive vinyl. The plan is to display this on
the port side of the jib, about three inches below the middle batten,
as shown in the photo.
The url is laser cut in red vinyl, and comes with a transfer sheet
on the front, so you can apply all the lettering in one operation,
as follows:
- peel back a small part of the backing sheet to expose a couple
of inches of the sticky side at one end of the sign
- position the sign where you want it on the jib (about 3 inches
below the middle batten, just above the tell tales, on the port
side)
- press the exposed adhesive on to the sail
- gently pull off the rest of the backing sheet from the under side
of the sign, while pressing the sign onto the sail
- remove the transfer sheet from the front of the sign once the
whole sign is stuck to the sail
- heat the sign with a heat gun (or hair dryer) to increase the
adhesive bond, and make sure the sign stays stuck to the sail
It would be really great if everyone who gets a mylar jib would
take a few minutes to apply the sign.
Here's what you will be getting with your new jib:

Heres how it will look:
