| Jerciho Classic Regatta
Report 2007.
Last weekend June 2nd-3rd we had 11 Tasars competing in generally light
air
(5-13 knots) Westerly conditions. Saturday's first two races were owned
by
light air aces Ronald and Conrad Konitzer. It was interesting to contrast
the styles of top competitors Conrad Konitzer (age 4) and Kent Powley
(age
40+). Races 3 and 4 were sailed in breezy conditions with Kent Powley
and
Cathy Sherwood showing they have made the transition from being "pointers"
to "footers" and sailing away with the lead. Gary Brandt and
Shelly Macy,
undergoing a case of "pimp my ride" were sailing the new Locarno
Tasar #2754
(with their own #2379 sails) and going fast as well.
Sunday the wind was lighter and oscillated from the West to North West
with
both right and left sides of the course paying at different times. During
race 8 Ronald and Conrad lost their mast after a collision and were taken
out of competition. Fortunately, both Ronald and Conrad were un-injured.
In
the end Kent and Cathy sailed to a convincing first place, with me, Lynn
Raymond/Allison Coleman coming in second. Richard Spencer/Lori Harkins
sailed consistently to 3rd place.
In Shelly's special award category the Sponge Bob award (Bob; best of
bottom, aka the mop award or middle of pack) was given to Andriy Kanyuka
and
Tai Kuo. Relatively new Tasar sailors Felipe Zahr and Andrea Uribe received
potted flowering plants to mark their growth in the fleet.
It was great to see Kent and Cathy as well as Bruce Gage and Indie Finch
making the trip up from Seattle. We certainly thank the JSCA staff Rory
Johnston and Benj Rummen and a host of volunteers including the regular
mark
boat jockeys Jim and Fred. In particular, we also thank Guy Wall for
spending the weekend on the RC boat and ensuring lots tight racing (a
total
of 9 races were run).
